Mascot Engineering were consulted to assist with the design and supply of certified Electrical Pits and Covers to Water NSW’s Metropolitan Dams electrical upgrade project. The Metropolitan Dams supply up to 30% of Sydney’s drinking water and are crucial in ensuring continuation of quality water to Sydney and the Illawarra.
This critical water infrastructure project includes Dams in the Upper Nepean System; the Avon Dam, Cordeaux Dam, Nepean Dam, Cataract Dam and the Woronora Dam. The upgrade to the distribution networks of the dams involved relocating overhead electrical infrastructure underground to protect the assets from possible bushfires.
The brief called for 400 pits and that the installation methodology be engineered to cater for the sites specific conditions such as potential rising water tables, rock, sandstone and sand sub base. Independent engineer Rickard Engineering assisted with the site installation design, inspections, and certification of the product. Additionally, assistance with drainage design, and the bedding of pits to prevent settlement in the environment they were specifically designed for.
