We recently assisted the John Holland Rail division with a structural design for a custom precast pit for Transport for NSW and Next Rail for the Lewisham Traction Project (1500V DC) in Sydney’s Inner West.
Jacobs (engineering design) & John Holland provided Mascot Engineering with the project brief that included pit sizing and depth requirements as well as buoyancy and geotechnical details. This detail enabled our team to assist in developing an optimised pit design for this 2200mm x 2600mm opening pit at 4200mm depth.
The installation location of the pit was challenging and the pit needed to be supplied in segments to reduce lift weights and site access constraints whilst maintaining rail specification and loading requirements. Jacobs left it to us to provide a design to suit not only the manufacturing process but also transportation requirements (delivered during day time hours).
The Mascot team assisted with the optimised structural design in 3 segments, with half of the pit buried and the top half above ground as seen in the photos. A custom precast cover slab was fitted with Mascot Engineering watertight infill and boltdown Access Covers for authorised access.
Overall another great success story with our custom pit crew delivering on time to meet road closures in a busy inner city thoroughfare that was coordinated some weeks prior.
Thank you to John Holland and Jacobs for trusting Mascot Engineering to deliver another infrastructure upgrade.
Our precast team have a deep understanding of the compliance requirements of Australian infrastructure projects and work with you to provide a solution specific to your project’s needs. We will work alongside your site engineer or engage ours to provide the appropriate support from design, approval, manufacture, delivery and certification.
