Concrete Encased Access Covers
Owned and operated by the Gladstone Regional Council, Gladstone Airport was upgraded in 2008 to accommodate an increase in Qantas services each week to the region. The Council was adamant that the airport remained open during the upgrade to ensure all air ambulance and emergency flights continued. This assurance applied considerable pressure on the contractors to ensure the project ran smoothly and on time.
When selecting access covers for this project, not only did they have to be Class D and Class G load rated for the heavy traffic, but given the restraints on construction timing, the installer engaged Mascot Engineering to provide a solution to save them time on site.
Our infill access covers pre-encased in an engineered precast concrete surround were selected for the Airport. By using a concrete encased cover from Mascot Engineering, the contractor saved a huge amount of time installing… rather than needing to erect formwork, steel-fix the reinforcement and pour concrete, they simply placed the finished product over the pits with no additional work.
We stock a complete range of concrete encased access covers in all popular load ratings and sizes, however with our flexible precast concrete manufacturing facility we can design, engineer and manufacture a cover solution to suit your project. Our experience in concrete and access covers spans generations and with facilities across Australia we’re never too far from your site.
