NEW Manhole Cover Keyhole Cap
Access Cover keyhole plugs are often overlooked, however we understand the important role they play in the overall design and functionality of the cover when installed and in service.
Reimagined in 2022, our manhole cover keyhole plugs are manufactured from a composite material which allows for some flex without cracking and a better/tighter fit when in place. A recess suitable for a screwdriver or similar has been included to reduce the chance of damage when gaining access.
Designed specifically to meet the standards of our gas and airtight access covers, however, may be suitable for replacement covers also.
Mascot Engineering is committed to providing industry leading products and we’re constantly reviewing our designs to improve our offering to you.
The Standards and Compliance – AS3996, EN124 and more.
The 1992 version of the Australian Standard for Access Covers & Grating (AS3996 : 1992) introduced a new keyhole design for manhole cover lifting and access. This design has been reviewed with each review of the standard and remains largely unchanged.
Section 3.2.2.6 of the current version of the Standard (AS3996 : 2019) includes a drawing and dimensions for the keyhole for consistency across the industry, allowing for lifting keys to open a range of manufacturers manhole covers.
It is also noted that lifting keyholes should be fitted with removable plastic plugs to prevent the ingress of foreign materials.
EN124 is the European standard equivalent to the Australian Standard AS3996. This standard does not include detailed keyhole, nor does it include details regarding gas and airtight manhole covers. The industry globally references AS3996 for air and gastight covers. More information on EN124 and AS3996 can be found here.
